About This Call
The Art in Public Places Program of New Mexico Arts, the New Mexico Department of Tourism, and the Pueblo of Pojoaque's Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino seek to commission up to ten temporary environmentally based artworks to be exhibited in various locations on the grounds of the Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino.
Artwork should be environmentally based and respond to green technologies and/or innovative materials use. New Mexico Arts is particularly interested in interactive art that promotes responses and transforms participants into active contributors to the creative process. No artwork requiring concrete pads or other environmentally damaging approaches will be considered. Media must be low maintenance, safe for both children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave a permanent mark on the environment when removed. At the agreed upon time of removal, the artist will return the installation site to its original condition. Artwork must be sufficiently secured against high winds and intense weather conditions. No large holes may be dug or foreign organic materials released into the environment.
Project amounts are variable and will be worked out in collaboration with selected artists based on individual project needs. Artists will be responsible for all applicable expenses including materials, labor, insurance, taxes, installation, photographic documentation, and retrieval. There is no medical or workers' compensation insurance provided by the State of New Mexico or the sites. This project is open to New Mexico artists only, and artists in all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. Installation is scheduled for August 13, 2010, with removal by October 29, 2010. Submission requirements include a letter of interest, resume, ten images of previously completed work, and an annotated image list with title, media, dimensions, year of completion, and project description, budget, and commissioning agency if applicable.
