Through the Lens: Dallas Arts District

'Through the Lens: Dallas Arts District' is a juried photography competition organized by the Dallas Arts District Foundation, HALL Group, and corporate sponsors to raise funds for the Foundation's granting arm that re-invests in visual and performing arts in Dallas. Professional, emerging, mid-career, and student photographers are encouraged to submit existing or new images of the Dallas Arts District that portray "A Day in the Life" of the district. There is no entry fee. Images will be accepted through April 30, 2018, with a maximum of 8 images per submission. Submitted photos can capture any subject matter within the Dallas Arts District, including performances, social gatherings, backstage moments, architecture, and street life.

Selected photographs will be featured in a hardbound coffee table book, 'Through the Lens: Dallas Arts District,' sold at venues throughout the Dallas Arts District, with all gross proceeds donated to the Dallas Arts District Foundation. Jurors include Dallas Mayor Michael S. Rawlings (Honorary Chair), Patricia Meadows, Virginia Shore, Jeremy Strick (Director of the Nasher Sculpture Center), Dr. Agustín Arteaga (Director of the Dallas Museum of Art), Dr. Sam Holland (Dean of the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University), and Howard Rachofsky.

Selected photographers will receive a $500 stipend, one copy of the book, a gift from a Dallas Arts District venue valued at $50-$100 or more, inclusion in the hardbound coffee table book with an abbreviated biography, an invitation to the 'Through the Lens Gala,' recognition in press materials, and potential opportunities to license their art for future exhibition. Image specifications: JPEG or JPG format, under 5MB, minimum 1200 pixels on the longest side. Selected photographers must provide an abbreviated biography (200 words or less), image title, date, size, process, and signed waiver within 10 business days of notification, along with high-resolution artwork for publication. Copyright remains with the photographer; the publication receives a 1-time-use release.
