Through the Eye of the Needle

Hudson Valley MOCA's third juried exhibition seeks artists using stitchery, macramé, weaving, and hand-crafting techniques that integrate found objects, recyclables, pottery shards, shells, and other materials into complex tapestries. The exhibition addresses the use of hand crafting to reflect on cultural diversity, regional craft, and environmental issues.

Eligibility: Artists from across the United States, 18 years or older. Original works only, executed during the past three years that have never been exhibited at Hudson Valley MOCA. Entry fee is $45.00. Submit up to 5 images of your work through CaFE (no mail-in applications). Notification to artists will be sent December 27, 2022.

Awards: First Prize $500, Second Prize $250, Third Prize $100. Exhibition dates: January 14 - March 11, 2023. Opening reception: Saturday, January 14, 2023, 3-5pm. Two-dimensional work must be framed and ready for installation with hanging hardware already installed; maximum 84 inches in any dimension and 75 pounds. Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 84 inches in any dimension and 100 pounds. Work requiring assembly must include detailed installation instructions with reference photos. Hudson Valley MOCA prohibits glitter, wet paint, sharp objects, open flames, balloons, sprays, dangerous chemicals, weapons, pressurized containers, plants, animals, hazardous materials, or decaying materials. Selected works must be delivered ready to hang/display. Shipped artwork deadline: January 5-7, 2023. Hand deliveries accepted January 5, 7, and 12, or by appointment. Hudson Valley MOCA takes 50% commission on sales; work does not have to be for sale. Insurance provided onsite during installation, exhibition, and de-installation, but not during transit.
