About This Call
Thirty New Orleans Artists is a juried exhibition and open call for New Orleans resident artists, presented as a visual arts program of the New Orleans Tricentennial. The exhibition will be held from September 8 to November 3, 2018, at Second Story Gallery, an artist-run cooperative located at 2372 St. Claude Ave. in the St. Claude Arts District. The gallery is open Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with free admission to the public. An opening reception and awards ceremony will take place on September 8, 2018, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Thirty artists will be selected by three prominent contemporary art professionals: Gia Hamilton, Director of the Joan Mitchell Center; Charlie Tatum, Editorial Manager for Pelican Bomb; and Emily Wilkerson, Independent Curator. Eligible artists must be current residents of New Orleans, Louisiana, with proof of residence (valid driver's license or utility bill). Both 2-D and 3-D artworks are accepted. 2-D work in painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, and photography must not exceed 50 inches at the longest dimension and must be framed and ready for professional presentation. 3-D wall-mounted work cannot exceed 50 by 50 inches; freestanding work cannot exceed 7 feet in any dimension. All artworks must have been produced within the past two years. Submissions should include 1 to 5 images. The entry fee is $30 per artist.
Three top selected artists will be invited to exhibit in a three-person show at Second Story Gallery in fall 2019. Cash awards totaling in excess of $1,250 will be distributed, with a minimum of 25% of entry fees allocated for artist awards. All works are for sale, and Second Story Gallery will retain a 25% commission on sold works. Artists are responsible for hand-delivering work to and from the gallery. Work must be ready to install with hardware for immediate installation. Hand delivery pickup of returned work is available November 5 to 8, 2018. For questions, contact Project Director Charles M. Lovell at [email protected].
