About This Call

Third on Canvas is a juried fresh paint event in its thirteenth year. Each February, forty artists paint on site at pre-determined locations in and around the historic Third Street South district of Naples, Florida. Painting days for the 2020 event are Sunday, February 23 and Monday, February 24 from 10 am to 4 pm. Artists create one original work of art outdoors and may choose their subject matter, media, and technique. Completed and framed works must be delivered to Naples Art (585 Park Street) on Wednesday, February 26 between 10 am and 12 noon.

Invited artists may suggest their top three preferred painting sites within the following boundaries: Broad Street South to the north, 15th Avenue South to the south, Fourth Street South to the east, and the beach to the west. Some artists may paint around the City Dock area at Crayton Cove. Painting sites are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. A jury of local art professionals will evaluate all entries and assign four awards: Best of Show, First Place, Second Place, and Juror's Choice.

All works of art will be included in the Third on Canvas auction on Saturday, February 29 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Naples Art. Works are sold to the highest bidder in voice and silent auctions. Proceeds are divided between the artist and the beneficiary, with the artist receiving 40% of the auction amount. Naples Art - Art Business Entrepreneurship Academy is the 2020 beneficiary. Artists may donate their full portion to Naples Art if they choose.

Artwork requirements: two-dimensional, framed and wired for hanging, minimum 10 inches by 14 inches, no larger than 44 inches in either direction including frame, and no heavier than 15 lbs. Media may include oil, acrylic, tempera, watercolor, pastels, or collage on canvas, paper, board, or other two-dimensional surfaces. Entry fee is $5 non-refundable. Applicants must submit a current headshot, bio, and 4-5 images of original artwork. Notifications will be posted in the applicant's CaFÉ account on December 9, 2019. Artists notified of their assigned painting site by email on December 16, 2019.
