About This Call

The Gainesville Fine Arts Association (GFAA) invites submissions exploring the theme Things Unseen. Artists are invited to contemplate the things in between the lines and the questions behind the questions. Who are the people or what are the ideas behind movements, trends, and culture that have been lost from view? Hidden illnesses, disabilities, stories and feelings kept private; microscopic organisms and structures too small to see; people of color and women left out of history books and research papers; the wives behind known men; unknown things in the vastness of space and deepest oceans; countless species yet to be discovered. Artists are invited to question, investigate, and dive deeper; to make the implicit explicit; and bring to light Things Unseen.

Entry fee is $35 for 2 images, with a $5 additional fee per image for submissions up to 6 total images. Work sample requirements: minimum 2 images, maximum 6 total samples (images, audio, or video combined). Only original works will be considered; no substitutes or reproductions accepted. All mediums accepted. All artwork must be ready to hang with proper hardware. Framed pieces that are shipped must use plexi; hand delivered works may use glass. Artists shipping work must provide a return shipping label. Artworks should include a price or NFS. GFAA retains a 30% commission on all works sold during the exhibition. Any work sold during exhibition must stay up until the end of the exhibition. Artists must be 18 or older to submit.

Curator: Katy Lemle. Jurors: Dina Sherman, M.F.A CalArts; Jesús Fuenmayor, Program Director & Curator, University Galleries - School of Art + Art History, University of Florida; and one TBD.
