The Wine Dark Sea

The Tubac Center of the Arts presents The Wine Dark Sea, an exhibition that challenges artists to create works in painting, sculpture, and a variety of media. The exhibition features a solvable mystery for patrons and interactive installations. Artists are encouraged to showcase mark making, color treatments, functional or non-functional pieces, interactive work, experimentation, revolutionary ideas, decoding words, poetry, film, and conceptual pieces. Artists can provide clues that lead viewers to solve or decipher outcomes and meanings, or invite viewers to imagine and develop multiple interpretations that can be recorded in writing or by dictation. The viewer's participation becomes part of the work of art.

Original artwork executed within the last 24 months is required. Giclee reproductions printed on canvas are not permitted. Work cannot have been previously shown at TCA. All artwork must arrive ready to hang and suitably matted (white, black, or neutral colors preferred) with simple framing and firm wiring. No sawtooth hangers are permitted. All work must be for sale, with TCA retaining a 40% commission. No art may be removed from the exhibit prior to closing on June 1, 2019, including sold work.

Entry fee is $25 ($20 with TCA Member discount), with $5 for each additional entry image up to 4 entries. Student discount is available. Up to four works may be entered for consideration via digital images in jpg format only. The juror is STRADA COMPANY. Awards include Best of Show ($400), Juror's Award ($300), Award of Excellence ($200), Award of Merit ($100), and Special Recognition ($75, 2 awards). The exhibition runs May 3 - June 1, 2019, with an opening reception on Friday, May 3 from 5-7pm. Artists are responsible for shipping to and from TCA and must provide a barcoded preprinted prepaid shipping label for return of unsold artwork.
