About This Call
The Williams Prize in Drawing for Emerging Artists is a celebration of drawing as a critical element in contemporary art making and as an art form with powerful expressive possibilities. The prize provides a venue through which emerging artists can share, on a national stage, both their unique visions and their drawing skills. The prize is designed for applicants creating 2D drawings with either traditional methods or more experimental contemporary approaches and materials.
Eligibility: Entrants must be 18 years of age or older and currently residing in the United States. Applicants may be recent graduates, currently enrolled in any degree-granting art school in the United States, or working independently on their art or with an atelier school. The Artist for Artists Project is specifically looking for artists that do not have gallery representation and have limited experience exhibiting and selling their art. There are no upper age limits.
Awards: First Prize: $1,000. Juror's Choice Awards: 10 awards of $200 each. A Purchase Award of $500 may be awarded to any of the eleven finalists chosen by the juror, in addition to the initial prize won. The top 50 artists will be considered for spots as "exhibiting artists" in future invitational shows hosted by The Artist for Artists Project.
Requirements: Entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Drawings should be no larger than 48"x48"x3" including frame. Drawings must be current, completed since March 2012. Submit 1-4 images. Drawing tools and methods should be explained in your artist's statement if not obvious.
