About This Call
Henry Point Development is re-energizing a historic 1938 WPA building located at 10722 SE Main Street in Milwaukie, Oregon. The building will house a brewery restaurant, coffee house, community meeting room, and executive suites with 18-hour public activation. Raziah Roushan, Inc. is coordinating a Call for Artists to complete the art installation portion of the project (estimated April 2025).
Four new public art zones have been identified, both indoor and outdoor, in addition to an existing outdoor sculpture garden. An 8-person Steering Committee composed of Milwaukie residents and business representatives will review and determine the new public art scope. Zone 1 (Exterior Front Entry) features a 10' wide x 6.6' deep x 20' tall arch with a budget of $15,000–$25,000 and expects a 10-year installation lifespan. Zone 2 (Interior Stairwell) is 22'5" long x 7'11" deep x 16'11.5" tall with a budget of $8,000–$15,000 and expects a 5-year installation lifespan. Zone 1 accepts semi-permanent materials such as murals, graphics, and mosaics; sculptural works must be small-medium sized, modular, less than 100 lbs each, flush-mount or parallel to the surface, and cannot use materials that rust. Zone 2 accepts temporary materials including murals, graphics, and 2D/3D installations.
The project theme is "The Threads That Connect Us; Echoes of Time," inviting artists to interpret the philosophical, conceptual, and nostalgic qualities of how time passes through the geographic qualities of the Willamette River's terrain and the anthropologic presence of humans in Milwaukie and the surrounding 15-mile radius, and where it may take us in the next 100 years. A 1938 Time Capsule was discovered during redevelopment. Artists are encouraged to research the region and create diverse interpretations of Milwaukie's past, present, and future. RFP submissions are by invitation only from the RFQ phase. Installation occurs between January 1 and March 30, 2025, with an unveiling ceremony in April 2025. A $250 invoice is required, addressed to Clackamas County Art Alliance, PO Box 2181, Oregon City, OR 97045.
