About This Call
Henry Point Development is re-energizing a historic 1938 WPA building located at 10722 SE Main Street in Milwaukie, Oregon. The building will become home to a brewery restaurant, coffee house, community meeting room, and executive suites with 18-hour public activation. Raziah Roushan, Inc. is coordinating a public art installation project to celebrate the building's role as a community gathering hub.
This Request for Qualification (RFQ) prioritizes two public art zones: Zone 1 (Exterior Front Entry Arch: 10' wide x 6.6' deep x 20' tall, budget $15,000-$25,000, semi-permanent materials with 10-year lifespan) and Zone 2 (Interior Stairwell: 22'5" long x 7'11" deep x 16'11.5" tall, budget $8,000-$15,000, temporary materials with 5-year lifespan). All visual modalities are considered, including 2D, 3D, projection art, animation, and mixed media. Audio and tactile experiences are acceptable if paired with a visual installation.
The project theme is "The Threads That Connect Us; Echoes of Time," inviting artists to interpret the philosophical, conceptual, and nostalgic qualities of how time passes through the geographic and anthropologic context of Milwaukie and the surrounding 15-mile radius, and where it may lead in the next 100 years. Artists are encouraged to draw upon the region's long history and create diverse interpretations of Milwaukie's past, present, and future. Eligibility is regional with priority given to artists residing in Clackamas County, Oregon and/or the Portland Metro region, including Vancouver, Washington. Emerging and intermediate artists are encouraged to apply. Each zone will be awarded to one individual or team; artists may not apply to multiple zones. No aromatic fragrances or decomposable materials are permitted. The RFQ deadline is September 13, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. PST. There is no application fee. Selected artists will advance to the RFP phase with notifications by October 14, 2024, and contracts secured by December 1, 2024, with installation expected January-March 2025 and unveiling in April 2025.
