About This Call
The Still(ed) Life celebrates the creation of handmade prints using historic and alternative photographic printing techniques. All 2-D and 3-D handmade art is acceptable. Light Art Space invites LGBTQ, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and self-identifying artists of color—historically under-represented artists working in the visual arts—to submit.
All submitted works must be created by the hand of the artist using processes including silver gelatin, platinum/palladium, albumen, cyanotype, gum bichromate, wet-plate collodion, photogravure, carbon, vandyke brown, traditional printmaking, instant transfers and lifts, hand-manipulated (altered surface) digital prints, and other alternative and historic printing processes. Combinations of these processes are welcome. Digital negatives are acceptable in creating these processes, but straight inkjet (digital) prints and AI-derived works are not eligible. All entries must be hand-made prints created in the last 4 years. Work needs to arrive at the gallery ready to hang; framing is not required. Artists must include instructions for alternative presentations.
Entry fee is $35 for 3 images, with $10 for each additional image up to 10 images total. Students receive a $20 discount with coupon code stu20. Submission deadline is June 30, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Accepted work is due at Light Art Space by July 27th. The exhibition opens August 4th with a reception from 5-7 p.m. and runs through September 30, 2023. Juror Diana Bloomfield will award First Place ($250), Second Place ($150), and Third Place ($75). Sales are encouraged; Light Art Space retains a 50% commission on any artwork sold. Artists 18 years of age and older are eligible.
