The State of Water

The State of Water is an exhibition exploring various "states" of water, from literal to figurative—whether physically transcending states from liquid to solid to gas, to a flowing river, to an emotional state, to a state of advancement from rising seas. In anticipation of World Water Day on March 22nd, the exhibition will showcase up to 50 original works of art by established and emerging artists residing in the North/Central Florida region. The exhibition will be held at Cypress and Grove Brewery (1001 NW 4th Street, Gainesville, 32601) from March 20-29, 2020, coinciding with the World Water Day Festival on March 22nd and Art Walk on March 27th.

Eligible artists may submit up to 3 different objects for consideration. The first object entry fee is $25; the 2nd and 3rd object entries are $10 each. The exhibition is open to two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of original art in most media, including painting, drawing, illustration, photography, print media, ceramic, sculpture, video, and mixed media. Works must be existing objects completed in the last three years. Submissions must include high-resolution digital images (up to 3 per object, at least 300 DPI and 1200 x 1800 pixels). All entries must be submitted online by 9:59pm EST on March 11, 2020. Notification of acceptance will be sent via email on March 14, 2020.

Jurors will select artwork for exhibition and award cash prizes: First Place ($500), Second Place ($250), Third Place ($150), and Honorable Mention ($100). All works sold during the exhibition have a 20% commission retained from the sale price (10% to Cypress & Grove Brewing Company and 10% to Play Hard Florida, LLC). Payment, less commission, will be mailed to the artist by April 30, 2020. Event sponsor donations will be presented to nonprofits working to protect Florida's waters: Florida Springs Institute, Kings Of The Springs, and Current Problems, Inc. Two-dimensional artwork must be framed with hanging hardware and no larger than 60"H x 60"L x 10"D. Three-dimensional artwork must be self-supporting, stable, with no sharp edges, weigh less than 60 pounds, and be no larger than 60"H x 40"L x 40"D. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of artwork and for insurance.
