About This Call
The State of Clay is a juried ceramic exhibition open to original, innovative ceramic work by current and former residents of Massachusetts, or artists presently working with clay in Massachusetts. The show aims to broaden public awareness of contemporary ceramic art and provide a venue for Massachusetts' clay artists. The exhibition will be held May 16 through June 14, 2020 in the Parsons Gallery at the Lexington Arts & Crafts Society, 130 Waltham St., Lexington MA (gallery hours: Tuesday-Sunday 12-4 p.m., Saturday 10-4 p.m.).
Eligibility: Artists must be over age 18. Work must have been completed within the last three years (2017-2019) and must not have been previously displayed in a State of Clay exhibit. Ceramic must be the dominant material. Applicants may submit up to 3 entries with one detail image permitted per entry. Entry fee is $35 (late fee $45, non-refundable, credit card only). Application deadline is January 10, 2020; late deadline is January 14, 2020.
Juror Julia Galloway will select award pieces in person and present a talk at the Artist Reception. In addition to cash awards and prizes, a People's Choice award will be given at the end of the show. All work must be for sale; the Lexington Arts & Crafts Society retains 40% of the retail price and the artist receives 60%. The society provides insurance coverage during exhibition. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance to and from the gallery. Work must be shipped in reusable, sturdy boxes via FedEx or UPS only, with a prepaid return shipping label included. Accepted artwork must match submitted images exactly with no substitutions.
