About This Call
The State of Clay is a juried competition open to original, innovative ceramic work by current and former residents of Massachusetts or artists presently working with clay in Massachusetts. The show aims to broaden public awareness of contemporary ceramic art and provide a venue for Massachusetts' clay artists.
Eligibility: Artists must be over age 18. Work must have been completed within the last three years (2015-2017) and must not have been previously displayed in a State of Clay exhibit. Ceramic must be the dominant material. Applicants may submit up to 3 entries with a total of 6 images. Entry fee is $45 (late fee). All work must be for sale.
The exhibition will be held at the Parsons Gallery at the Lexington Arts & Crafts Society from May 5 through June 3, 2018 (gallery hours Tuesday-Sunday 12-4 p.m., Saturday 10-4 p.m.). Juror Emily Zilber, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts' Ronald L. and Anita C. Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts, will select award pieces in person and present a talk at the Artist Reception on May 6, 2018. Awards include cash prizes and a People's Choice award. Lexington Arts & Crafts Society retains 40% of the retail price; the artist receives 60%. The gallery provides insurance coverage during exhibition. Artists are responsible for shipping and insurance to and from the venue. Work exceeding 35 lbs. must be installed by the artist between April 30 and May 3, 2018 or by special arrangement with the gallery. Accepted artwork must match submitted digital entries with no substitutions.
