About This Call
The Space Between is a five-week exhibition open to Colorado artists of any medium. The exhibition will include two First Friday events and an opening reception, taking place in the heart of the Art District on Santa Fe in Denver from May 3 to June 8, 2024.
The exhibition theme explores the concept of "The Space Between" inspired by Alan Fletcher's book The Art of Looking Sideways and the Japanese concept of Ma, defined as the emptiness in space, a pause in time, or an interval. Artists are invited to interpret this theme in infinite ways—the space between consciousness and subconsciousness, reality and non-reality, introversion and extroversion, silence and noise, loneliness and intimacy, darkness and light, or other interpretations.
Guest juror and curator is Kristina Davies, a visual artist and educator based in Denver. Entry fee is $35. Applicants must submit 1-3 images and optionally up to 1 video. Work must not exceed 36 inches on its longest side, including frame, with accurate measurements required on the application. Accepted artists must deliver work in person on Sunday, April 28 between 10 am and 11:45 am. Wire hangers must be attached to the back of pieces. Notification of acceptance will be sent April 4, 2024. Artist reception is Saturday, May 11 from 6-9 PM.
