About This Call
The Society of Arts and Crafts (SAC), founded in Boston in 1897, is the oldest non-profit craft organization in America. SAC's mission is to support excellence in crafts by encouraging the creation, collection and conservation of the work of craft artists, and to educate and promote public appreciation of contemporary craft in all disciplines.
SAC is announcing the eighth SAC Artist Awards to support New England craft artists. Three artists will each receive a $3,000 cash award and participate in a group exhibition of all award recipients at SAC's Newbury Street gallery from August to October 2008. The awards are intended to encourage and support New England artists who show mastery of their craft media and create original and innovative work. Eligible media include clay, glass, fiber, wood, metal, or mixed media.
The 2008 SAC Artist Awards is open to all craft artists currently residing in New England (MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI). All craft disciplines are eligible, including multi-disciplinary and collaborative work. If a collaboration is selected, the artists will share the award. Students currently enrolled in a full-time art study program and SAC Artist Award recipients from 2004 and 2006 are not eligible. Applications must be submitted electronically through www.callforentry.org and must include 10 images, an artist statement, and a resume. There is no application fee. Applications will be reviewed by a three-member jury of professionals from the craft community. For questions, contact 617-266-1810 (Mon-Fri, 10am-5pm) or [email protected].
