About This Call
Art Works Downtown invites SF Bay Area artists to participate in The Small Works Exhibit, an annual showcase of fine art featuring over 80 unique artworks in Gallery 1337. The exhibition is open to the art-loving public and holiday shoppers.
Eligibility and Requirements: Only artists living within 100 miles of San Rafael, California are eligible. Artwork must be smaller than 18"x18"x18" including frame, stand, and all materials. All visual arts media are welcome, with video submissions required to be silent and include player, monitor, and headphones within the size limit; projections are prohibited. Only original artwork is accepted—no giclées or reproductions, though editions are acceptable if they are original works such as printmaking, photography, or limited original digital art. Submissions must not have previously exhibited in Gallery 1337, and artwork must be for sale. The entry fee is $40.00. Submissions are made through callforentry.org only; hardcopy, email, and disk submissions are not accepted. Work samples may include up to 3 images and/or 3 videos, with a minimum of 1 total sample required.
Timeline and Delivery: Entry deadline is October 14, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification by email will be sent October 20-21. Accepted work must be hand-delivered to Art Works Downtown, 1337 Fourth Street, San Rafael on November 11 (10am–8pm) or November 12 (10am–5pm). All work must be ready for installation with wall-hung artwork securely wired. The exhibition runs through January, with an opening reception and 2nd Friday Art Walk on December 8 (5–8pm) and another reception on January 12 (5–8pm). Public visiting hours are Thursday–Saturday, 1–8pm. Artists must pick up unsold work January 25–27 (1pm–8pm); works not retrieved will incur a $5.00 per day storage fee, and items remaining after 30 days become property of Art Works Downtown. The juror is Eleanor Harwood, Owner and Director of Eleanor Harwood Gallery. Art Works Downtown accepts a 40% donation upon sale of artwork.
