About This Call

The Santo Foundation is hosting its first exhibition since 2010 to celebrate the 10th year of supporting emerging visual artists. Three top 2-D and video artists will be selected for a group exhibition at Arcade Contemporary Art Projects' 6,029 square foot gallery in the historic Arcade Building in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The exhibition opens Saturday, June 1, 2019 with a celebratory reception and runs through Saturday, August 10, 2019. The gallery features approximately 56 feet of total running wall length with all walls at least 12 feet in height, track lighting, and street-facing windows providing 24/7 public exposure on downtown St. Louis' 8th and Olive Streets. The exhibition will be open to the public four days a week for ten weeks.

Each of the three selected artists will receive three complimentary copies of a full-color catalog documenting the selected works and featuring commentary by the Distinguished Curator, Gretchen Wagner, Saint Louis Art Museum's Andrew W. Mellon Fellow for Prints, Drawings and Photographs. Wagner's research focuses on the history of printmaking and the role of artist's editions in contemporary practice. She has held curatorial positions at the Museum of Modern Art, the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, and the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center/Marfa Contemporary.

The call is open to all 2-D and video artists, including graduate school candidates. Emerging, mid-career, and mature artists are eligible. This is an international call and all artists are welcome to apply regardless of country, state, or residency status. Submit 6 to 10 files of original work (images, audio, video, or performance) and a current artist CV/resume (no more than three pages). Application fee is $45.00 USD for up to 6 files, with an additional $5.00 fee per file for submissions up to 10 total files. Image files must be JPEG format, 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side, under 5 MB. Audio files must be AIFF, WAV, XMF, or MP3 format, 96-320 kbps bit rate, under 10 MB. Video files must be in formats including MOV, MP4, AVI, or MPG, minimum 640 x 480 resolution, under 100 MB. The application deadline is December 8, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Winning artists will be announced in January 2019.
