About This Call
The River We Call Home
February 13, 2027 — May 30, 2027
The Connecticut River Museum in Essex, CT is excited to collaborate with the Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) and the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) in Vermont for a wonderful exhibit in celebration of the CRC’s 75th anniversary. The exhibition at both venues seeks to reflect a legacy of love and stewardship through artistic interpretations of the River as a home. By highlighting the watershed’s dimensionality as only art can do, the exhibit will help stir a renewed sense of passion and engagement for environmental conservation among museum visitors.
These two unified yet distinct contemporary art exhibits will be held at beautifully situated riverside locations in 2027: one at the Connecticut River Museum in Essex, CT from February to May, and one at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center in Brattleboro, VT, from July to October.
Call for artists!
If you would like to submit your Connecticut River Watershed themed art in any medium, applications will be accepted through November 1, 2026. Artists are invited to submit work for the juried group exhibition, entitled "The River We Call Home," which honors the Connecticut River watershed as a place of wonder, belonging, and relationship—one that sustains both human and natural communities. Artists may submit their applications for either or both exhibitions on one form, and indicate their preferences for which venue they would like to display their piece/s in their statement; jurors will do their best to accommodate preferences. The art will be complemented by informational displays, a kid-friendly interactive art corner, and supportive historic materials such as a scrapbook and digital media.
