About This Call
The Rice Gallery of Fine Art is accepting submissions for the 3rd Annual National Juried Plein Air Show 2018. This juried event celebrates the plein air tradition by exhibiting, promoting, and selling works painted outdoors in the true spirit of plein air painting. Artists may submit 1 to 5 images of their best plein air work to be judged individually by an experienced panel of plein air judges. All selected paintings will be featured for sale in a month-long gallery exhibition at The Rice Gallery of Fine Art in Overland Park, Kansas, opening Friday, February 16th, 2018 and concluding Friday, March 30th, 2018. Selected works will also be included in an online digital art opening with high resolution images presented via Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and www.thericegallery.com. All selected paintings are eligible for cash prizes, with winners announced no later than Friday, February 16th, 2018.
Submissions must be original plein air paintings ideally completed in the last 12 months. No prints, reproductions, or photography are eligible. All artwork must be completely dry, framed, wired securely, and ready to hang. Canvases must be framed or museum wrapped with finished/painted edges and wired to hang. Works on paper must be protected under glass or plexi-glass. No NFS (not for sale) paintings are eligible. Selected works must be received by The Rice Gallery of Fine Art no later than Wednesday, January 24th, 2018. Artists are responsible for all shipping expenses and insurance for works selected for exhibition.
The entry fee is $35 (non-refundable). Artists may submit a maximum of 5 images with their application via CAFÉ. All entries must be submitted by Sunday, December 17th, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artists must be CAFÉ members to submit (CAFÉ membership is free). The Rice Gallery will collect a 35% commission on any paintings sold during the exhibition. Prize money and artist portions of sales will be paid via check at the show's completion and mailed to the address provided in the artist's application.
