THE POWER OF RED

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels (emerging to established) to submit original artwork to this exhibition exploring the color red. This is a national call for entries with no restrictions on subject matter or style. All approaches—traditional or non-traditional—are acceptable. The gallery welcomes interpretations of how artists utilize red: whether the color permeates the entire image or appears in small sections, in objects or nature or abstract design, and whether it serves as a purely decorative element or a defining structural device.

Accepted mediums include painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to a maximum of 9 total images. All images must be submitted as JPEG files under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artwork specifications include: maximum 48 inches (framed) on the longest side and not exceeding 45 lbs for paintings; sculpture limited to 24 inches on any dimension. All artwork must be equipped with stretched wire attached to the back for installation. Photographs should be framed in black or white frames if presented traditionally.

Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on or about December 19, 2023. Accepted artwork must arrive at the gallery no later than January 26, 2024. The exhibition runs February 1-28, 2024. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance costs. An "Art of Distinction" Award will be granted to one artist, who will be featured in a special exhibit. Additionally, one artist accepted and displayed in an MVA Gallery exhibit during the past calendar year will be selected for an annual Grand Prize exhibition opportunity in New York City, with notification in December. The MVA Gallery is located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, approximately one hour from New York City.
