The Playful Spirit

The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) is seeking original artworks from artists with a playful spirit using any media, except AI. The exhibit will be held at monca, 900 Esplanade in Chico, from July 11 to September 1, 2024. Artists must reside in Northern California, defined as San Jose and all points north, east, and west to the state border.

Entry fees are $15 for one entry and $10 for each additional entry, with a maximum of 10 entries. All fees are non-refundable. Work samples may include 1-10 images and up to 3 videos. Accepted work must be delivered ready to hang or display, with wall-hung work fitted with framing wire. All work must be dry and clean. 3D work must fit on a pedestal (which monca can provide) or the artist may provide other means of display. Artist's name, phone, and title of work must be on the back of each artwork.

Deadline for entries and payment is Saturday, June 1. Jury results will be notified by email on or before June 10. Artwork delivery is June 27-30 and July 5-7 during museum hours (11am-5pm). The opening reception is Friday, July 12, 6-8pm, a free community event. Artwork pickup is September 1 at 5pm, or during museum hours September 5-8 and September 12-15. Works left beyond September 15 will be assessed a storage fee of $5 per piece per day (Thursday-Sunday). Works left beyond October 17, 2024 will become property of monca. Postage, packaging, and shipping insurance are the responsibility of the artist. If work is to be shipped back, the artist must provide a pre-paid mailing label. monca will be diligent in the care of artwork but is not responsible for loss or damage that might occur. If you wish to sell your exhibited work, provide a retail price reflecting a 50% museum commission. All exhibited artworks must remain in the exhibition until September 1, 5pm.
