About This Call

The Paths We Cross: Perspectives from the Korean Diaspora is a co-presentation of University of Hawaii - Hilo Art and English Department faculty. This international juried exhibition brings together contemporary visualizations of the complex history of transpacific migration, multiple homelands, colonization, resistance, hybrid culture, and ethnic identity. The exhibition addresses the larger global context of the Korean diaspora, highlighting the hardship and resilience of vibrant, dynamic, and global Korean communities, coupled with entrepreneurial success in a variety of endeavors, professions, and independence activism.

The call seeks artworks that visualize the essence of the Korean Diaspora and audio files that expressively capture the extraordinary migration stories of this culture. The call is open to individuals of Korean heritage and of any nationality, ages 18 and older. Artists may submit up to four images and/or two brief audio narratives (5 minutes maximum).
