About This Call
The PASEO 2019 is seeking artists to create installations, projections, and/or performance art for a two-day outdoor art festival in the Taos Downtown Historic District on September 13-14, 2019. The festival runs from sunset to 11pm each evening. This call is part of the second phase of Acequia Aqui, which aims to illuminate, celebrate, and educate the public about the historic downtown acequia network through artistic installations and designs. Selected art activations will vary in media, scale, and programming, with the potential for pre- and post-installation opportunities. All installations will be considered for implementation as permanent installations.
Artwork must be designed for outdoor and nighttime viewing in the high desert environment of Northern New Mexico and must be able to withstand outdoor conditions. Artists must be on-site from sunset to 11pm on both September 13-14. Submissions must be fully executed projects or derivations of the artist's past work, and all work must be original and created by or under the direction of the artist(s). Collaborations are welcome. The PASEO is able to provide stipends up to $5,000, though artists are responsible for providing equipment and installation of their work. The festival will provide staff and volunteers to assist. Overnight security is provided.
Eligibility is international. Applicants may submit up to 3 applications. Work samples must include a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 images, with optional audio (0-3 files) and video (0-3 files). Artists are also invited to submit proposals for educational workshops for pre-teens, teens, and adults, as well as lectures and educational forums. Selected artists will be contacted prior to the event to explore educational program options.
