About This Call
The PASEO is an outdoor art festival dedicated to bringing installation, performance, and projection art to the streets of Taos, New Mexico. This two-day event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, September 13-14, 2019, in the Taos Downtown Historic District. The festival is in its sixth year and seeks work that celebrates, contemplates, or questions interactions with each other, nature, or the world. The 2019 theme is "Connections."
The PASEO is seeking installations, projection, and/or performance art designed for outdoor and nighttime viewing. Art must be able to withstand the outdoor environment of the high desert of Northern New Mexico. Artists must be on site from sunset to 11pm daily, September 13-14. Submissions must be fully executed projects, not concept proposals. All work must be original and created by or under the direction of the artist(s); collaborations are welcome. Artwork must match the type and quality submitted for jurying. The festival encourages immersive, participatory, and site-responsive work that engages with people or the unique architecture of the historic town. Sound, light, and other forms of art are encouraged. Performance art is defined as either scripted or unscripted, random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous or carefully planned, and can be live or via media. Live bands or musical performances are not hired for PASEO.
The PASEO is able to provide stipends, but artists are responsible for providing equipment and installation of their work. The festival will provide staff and volunteers to assist. Overnight security is provided. Entry fee is $15.00. Artists may submit up to 3 applications. Work samples must include a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 images, with optional audio (0-3) and video (0-3) files. The festival is open to international artists. Additional stipends are available for artists selected for the STEMarts LAB @ The PASEO educational program, which partners artists with schools to engage students in the art-making process.
