About This Call
The PASEO is an outdoor nighttime art festival set in the high desert of Taos, New Mexico. The festival is dedicated to bringing installation, performance, and projection art to the historic streets of Taos, transforming local architecture into a magical experience and engaging the community in the art-making process. The PASEO 2017 will take place September 22-23 from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the Taos Historic District.
The Paseo Project is seeking multimedia installation, performance, and projection art proposals. Work must be immersive, participatory, and/or make a dynamic impact within the Taos Historic District. Preference is given to work that engages with the architecture within the historic downtown. Work can be roving, performative, site-responsive, culturally situated, land-based, or distort or disrupt scale and soundscape. Artists are encouraged to learn about Taos and its unique cultural history and integrate that with their work. Collaborations with local populations, non-profit organizations, local businesses, and schools are encouraged.
Entry fee is $25.00. Local Taos artists enter for free with code TAOSlocal. Artists must submit 3-6 images and may submit up to 3 audio files and 3 video files. Submissions must be fully executed projects, not concept proposals. All work must be original and created by or under direction of the artist(s). Artists must be on site during the festival (typically 5 hours each night) and are responsible for installing their own work, though The Paseo team provides volunteers to assist. Artwork must be designed for outdoor and nighttime viewing and must be able to withstand the outdoor environment of the high desert of Northern New Mexico.
The Paseo Project provides artist stipends and can assist with large equipment needs such as sound systems. A volunteer crew helps with temporary structures. New media artists are invited to submit proposals for STEMarts LAB @ The PASEO, an educational program where middle and high school students become part of the art-making process. Selected artists are partnered with schools in Taos, and stipends are available for eligible artists.
