The Next Big Thing 2023

Studio Channel Islands invites artists to submit their most recent breakthrough pieces for The Next Big Thing 2023 exhibition. All media and styles are welcome, including 2D/3D works, video, film, performance, sound, and installation art. All submissions must be original artwork completed within the last three years.

The entry fee is $45 for non-members and $35 for members with coupon code. Artists may submit between 1 and 6 work samples (images, audio, or video). The juror is Shana Nys Dambrot, an art critic, curator, and author based in Downtown LA and Arts Editor for L.A. Weekly. The Juror's Awards will be given to three works: 1st Place $1,000, 2nd Place $500, and 3rd Place $200. All successful artists will receive professional installation documentation of the exhibition (valued at $1,500).

The exhibition runs August 5 - September 30, 2023, with an opening reception on August 5, 4 PM - 6 PM. The submission deadline is July 4, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be notified on July 11. Artwork must be delivered by August 1, with drop-off available 9am-6pm. Pickup is October 3, 9am-6:30pm. Eligibility is open to all artists ages 18 and up. 2D artwork must be no larger than 8ft high. All artwork must be delivered ready to hang with appropriate hardware (no saw-tooth hangers). Pedestals will be provided for 3D artwork. Artists must indicate vertical or horizontal orientation and include any special installation instructions.
