About This Call

The Salt Lake City Department of Airports invites artists and artist-led teams to submit qualifications for The New SLC Art Wall as part of their Airport Terminal Redevelopment Program. The Salt Lake City International Airport is evolving to meet the region's growing needs as an international hub, with the first phase of construction set for completion in 2020.

The New SLC Art Wall dimensions are 30' 2" wide x 11' 7 ½" high and will be situated in a high-visibility area with heavy foot traffic. The total budget is $235,000 and is inclusive of artist's fees and related expenses for design, supplies, fabrication, insurance, transportation, permits, installation, and contingency. The artist is strongly encouraged to include a contingency plan of at least 10% of the project's commission in the budget. The final installation must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials in a climate-controlled environment. Installations should not include electricity, audio/visual technology, or water and should be designed with environmentally-conscious practices in mind. All artwork submitted must be original.

This RFQ is open to all professional artists and artist-led teams based in the United States. Artists residing in Utah are strongly encouraged to apply. Work sample requirements: minimum 5 images, maximum 10; minimum 0 audio files, maximum 3; minimum 0 videos, maximum 3; total samples minimum 5, maximum 16. The submission deadline is April 17, 2019. The selected artist must be present for artwork installation. Selected finalists will receive a $1,000 travel stipend for the first site visit and a $2,000 travel stipend and honorarium for the second site visit. The project timeline includes artist site visits May 22-24, 2019; concept design presentation June 27, 2019; and installation completion March 2020.
