About This Call
THE NEW NORMAL Rockport is a $150,000 competitive grant program administered by Gallery of Dreams, a Fort Worth nonprofit arts organization. The program challenges Rockport's visual artists to create works inspired by their current experiences, with a focus on three major contemporary challenges: recovery from Hurricane Harvey, the impact of COVID-19 on health and work, and the country's focus on eradicating systemic racism.
The program supports the creative community's economic recovery through art. A five-person panel of Rockport's art leaders will review applications and award grants of either $2,000 or $5,000 based on the strength of proposals, portfolios, and demonstrated financial need. Selected works will be exhibited in a group show in Rockport in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021. There is no entry fee to apply.
Eligibility is limited to visual artists working and residing in Rockport, TX. Applicants must be 21 years or older, demonstrate sustained commitment to their artistic practice, and show financial need due to COVID-19 or current events. Applicants must submit a written proposal detailing how their work interprets and documents the Rockport community's experience with the three major challenges, examples of current work (1-3 digital images or videos), and a statement demonstrating loss of income due to the COVID-19 crisis. All works must be original, completed in response to the submitted proposal, and available for exhibition. The application deadline is August 9, 2020.
