About This Call

The Neddy at Cornish is an annual artist award program supported by the Behnke Foundation and housed at Cornish College of the Arts. Each year, two $25,000 unrestricted awards are given—one in painting and one in any medium or combination of media grounded in the visual arts—to artists living and working in the greater Puget Sound region. Six finalists will also receive $1,000 and will be included in a group exhibition each June.

Eligibility: Artists must be full-time residents of Washington State, residing in the greater Puget Sound region (Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Mason, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, and Whatcom counties). Artists must be 18 years of age or older, currently active with an ongoing pattern of producing and presenting work. Students in undergraduate or graduate degree programs at the time of application are not eligible. Neddy at Cornish advisors, program staff, and their immediate families are not eligible.

Award Criteria: Recipients will demonstrate artistic distinction through an established body of work and a commitment to their practice. Criteria include: demonstrated commitment to and ongoing development of one's artistic vision, and demonstrated engagement with the world around them through their art practice. Application Requirements: Submit 10-15 media files (maximum 15 images, maximum 2 video, maximum 2 audio), an artist's resume, and two statements for the review panel through www.callforentry.org. Review Process: A panel of three regional arts professionals will select eight finalists (four painters and four open medium artists). A single juror from outside the region will conduct studio visits in April and select the two award recipients. Timeline: Application deadline February 3, 2012; finalist notification March 15-30, 2012; studio visits April 2012; award announcements May 2012; exhibition June-July 2012. Contact: [email protected] or (206) 726-5116.
