About This Call
The Naked Print is a juried national photography exhibition hosted by the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts, located at 118 N. Main St. Providence, RI 02903. This open call celebrates the physicality of the print itself, inviting work with no barrier between the viewer and the artwork—no glass, no glazing, no reflections. The exhibition is open to all forms of photography and photo-based work, including alternative processes and photo-based printmaking. Acceptable display methods include loose prints, top-mounted prints, prints on aluminum, canvas, or fabric, sculptural works, and handmade books. Float frames, conventionally framed, and matted work are acceptable as long as there is no glazing.
Artists of all levels who are at least 18 years old are invited to enter. The entry fee is $20 for the first two images and $10 for each additional image, with a maximum of 10 photographs per artist. Current RICPA members receive a 20% discount on all entry fees. Work must be original, exhibition-ready, and have a maximum size of 48 inches including the frame. Artists may submit multiple pieces (diptych, triptych, etc.) as one work.
The exhibition runs January 17 through February 15, 2019. The reception and awards ceremony is January 17, 2019 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Accepted work must be delivered in-person by January 12 (noon-5:30 p.m.) or by shipment arriving by January 14. The juror is Stephen Fisher, a master printmaker and professor at Rhode Island College with an M.F.A. from Yale University. Awards include First Place ($200), Second Place ($100), and Third Place ($50). RICPA retains a 40% commission on works sold (20% for current members). Artists retain all copyright to submitted images and grant RICPA the right to use images for marketing and online reproduction with artist recognition.
