The Mixtape New Works Festival Vol. 2

Instrumental Theatre Company, an emerging Chicago theatre whose mission is to inspire harmony through ensemble storytelling crafted at the intersection of actors and musicians, invites playwrights, composers, and writers to submit their work for The Mixtape New Works Festival Vol. 2. This developmental project will feature 4 new pieces of theatre that will be workshopped and performed as stage readings in May 2026, supporting the development of new musically inspired storytelling from Chicago artists.

Submissions are accepted for full-length plays with music/songs or full-length musicals (estimated 90-120 minutes in length) from Chicago-based writer(s) and/or composer(s). Work must not have had a fully realized production and should engage, align, or overlap with Instrumental's mission to inspire harmony through ensemble storytelling crafted at the intersection of actors and musicians. Casts of 8 or fewer will be prioritized, though larger casts will be considered. One submission per writer(s) is permitted. BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and members of marginalized communities are highly encouraged to submit.

Submissions are due by February 25, 2026, or once the script committee has reached capacity for review. If capacity is reached, the submission form will be closed and an update will be posted on social media. All submissions will be notified of the decision in March 2026.
