About This Call

The Limited Palette is an online exhibition open to all artists in the United States working in 2D media (excluding photography and digital art). The theme explores limited palettes in many different forms—whether consisting of one color, primary colors, or a small selection of colors—and challenges artists to create a wide range of tones using only a few tubes of paint.

Acceptable mediums include watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oils, ink, casein, and egg tempera on any 2D surface such as watercolor paper, canvas, rice paper, illustration board, and wood. Work must not have been exhibited in a previous Rhode Island Watercolor Society juried show, must have been completed within the last 10 years, and may not be copied from copyrighted material or partially painted by another artist. There is no size limit for this show. Submit 1-3 digital images. Entry fee is $15 for non-members and $10 for members. Exhibition dates are April 29th - May 26th, with an online opening reception on Friday, May 5th at 6pm via Zoom. Notification of acceptance is April 28th. The show offers over $400 in cash prizes. If work is sold through the online gallery, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society receives 35% of the sale, and up to 50% of shipping costs will be provided at the gallery's discretion.
