The Language of Fiber Art

The annual Fiber Artists of San Antonio Art Exhibition will be held October 8 through November 12, 2021, at the Kelso Art Center, University of Incarnate Word, San Antonio, TX. The theme is "The Language of Fiber Art." Fiber lends a unique expression in art with its own distinctive delivery of the message. Whether traditional or non-traditional techniques are employed, there is an observable richness through this medium. The exhibition invites artists to share stories, ideas, or conceptual designs told through fiber art.

The exhibition is open to FASA members and non-members. Artists' submissions must have been completed within the last two years and must be original, unsold artwork containing some portion or all fiber. Art produced in instructor-guided workshops or by use of a kit is not eligible. Eligible categories include art quilts, framed fiber art, sculptural pieces, vessels/basketry, paper art forms, art-to-wear garments or accessories, art dolls, woven textiles, and mixed media work. Artwork cannot exceed 6' (72") X 5' (60") in dimension or weigh more than 10 lbs. Submissions must include 1-9 digital images (.jpeg/.jpg format, under 5 MB, minimum 1,200 pixels on longest side) with the artwork as the only item visible against a solid, neutral background.

The entry fee is $35 for up to three art pieces per artist. Active paid FASA members can receive a $5 discount code. The exhibition will be juried by Sarah Fox. Artists will be notified of acceptance by August 27, 2021. Awards include First Place ($300), Second Place ($200), Third Place ($100), and Member Excellence Award ($100), announced at the opening reception on October 8, 2021. The University of Incarnate Word retains a 30% commission on artwork sales. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery and must provide paid return shipment labels. Insurance is provided by the gallery once artwork is received.
