About This Call
The Golden Public Art Commission and Foothills Art Center are seeking artists for the Itty Bitty Art Project 2022, a public art initiative designed to make art more approachable and engaging on a small-scale budget. The project will feature site-specific artworks at 14 locations: 7 sites along the Clear Creek Walking Path near the Golden Library and 7 sites on Washington Avenue near the Howdy Arch. These sites include cracks in building sides, sections of brick or cobblestone, water spigots, and similar small spaces.
Artists may apply for up to 3 locations in a single application and may submit multiple applications. Proposals should be site-specific, illustrating the intended style and utilizing the unique aspects of each location. Artists can use any medium, but works are intended to be ephemeral, lasting between 12 and 24 months outdoors on stone, concrete, and similar surfaces. Artists must work only within their designated area without expanding or damaging surfaces, and must clean surrounding areas. The artwork must not include racist or political symbols, hate messages, or pornographic elements. Each selected artist will receive $500 per completed piece.
Eligibility is open to artists of all levels and ages. Artists should live within the region since they will be responsible for creation and installation. The entry fee is $10 and allows for up to 3 separate proposals. Submissions are due by April 15, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artist selections will be made by May 5, 2022, with all works to be completed by June 30, 2022. This opportunity coincides with Foothills Art Center's Arts Week, Golden.
