About This Call
This opportunity is open to Wisconsin artists only. The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts is seeking sculptures for two locations: the Outdoor Theatre and the Children's Area. Existing sculptures and sculpture proposals will be accepted. Finished artwork would ideally be installed in November 2016, weather dependent.
All artwork must have a strong relationship with nature in theme and/or materials and be appropriate in scale and theme with the location. Sculptures must be durable, require limited maintenance, and be suitable for Wisconsin outdoor weather conditions in all seasons as well as interaction with the general public. The Outdoor Theatre location sits on a 6-foot high berm along a well-traveled hiking and biking trail, with a $3,000 stipend offered for a two-year commitment. The Children's Area location is at the end of The William and Sandra Haack Promenade and requires a piece that is sonic and/or kinetic, able to withstand being crawled upon, touched, or used, with a $3,000 stipend for a two-year commitment.
Submissions should include up to six jpg images demonstrating artistry, proficiency, and finished quality, numbered in order of preference with your last name. Provide a separate image list with artwork title, materials, dimensions, and year created, indicating which are completed works or proposals. Submit a 1-2 page CV highlighting commissioned works, public projects, and/or exhibitions. Up to 3 finalists will be chosen for each location and must provide a movable, table-top sized maquette for community input. Finalists will receive an honorarium for maquette creation. Selected artists are responsible for transportation, installation assistance, maintenance, and public availability. The Wilson Center provides logistical support, site design parameters, site preparation, installation costs, promotional materials, and General Liability Insurance. Artists are responsible for negotiating and selling sculptures and must pay the Wilson Center 30% of any sale while on exhibit or within six months thereafter. Deadline for submission is July 8, 2016. Finalists will be chosen by July 31, 2016. Maquettes are due August 15, 2016.
