The HeArt of the Book

The Loveland Artists Collective invites submissions for a group exhibition exploring book arts in the visual realm. The exhibition will be displayed in the South Gallery at Artworks in downtown Loveland from February 14th through March 28th, 2020. This exhibit will be promoted and included in the Loveland Sweetheart Festival, which occurs February 14-16, 2020, expected to bring 35,000 visitors along with normal foot traffic Loveland receives during this month.

The call includes both 2D and 3D works of art ranging from small handmade books to floor-to-ceiling book art installations. Original artworks only are eligible; traditionally printed or published books and online self-published books are not eligible, though these products may be used in creating an original work. Artists must reside within the continental US and be over 18 years old. Entry fee is $30.00 (non-refundable). Submit 1-6 images of your work. Artwork specifications: 2D work maximum 48" x 48"; 3D work maximum 60" x 48" x 24" and less than 75 lbs; installation pieces maximum 5' x 5' x 5'. 2D artwork must be wired to hang with finished edges. 3D work must be stable and able to sit on pedestals. Installation work must include specific instructions and be installable without significant impact to gallery walls, ceiling, and floors. Content must be family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

Jurors include Mervi Hjelmroos-Koski, Ph.D., D.Sc., Manager of School of Botanical Art & Illustration with the Denver Botanic Gardens, and Alicia Bailey, studio artist/gallerist and owner/director of Abecedarian Artists Books in Denver. Awards: $100 Best of Show 3D, $100 Best of Show 2D, $100 People's Choice. Artists will be notified of application status by January 10, 2020. Accepted artists must deliver work by January 27, 2020; artists are responsible for shipping and insurance with a return shipping label required. Sales occurring during the show will be processed through ArtWorks of Loveland with a 40% commission taken and 60% going to the artist. Sales checks will be mailed within 30 days of exhibit closing. Unsold work will be returned to the artist the week after show closure.
