About This Call

The Freedom of Abstraction is a juried exhibition at Site:Brooklyn Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, running May 3 – June 1, 2019. The exhibition explores abstraction as a means of freedom from naturalism and representation, examining how artists use abstraction to explore imagination, strip away visual irrelevancies, or find essential qualities in observed forms. The exhibition is juried by Julia Halperin, executive editor of artnet News.

This exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older working in drawing, painting, printmaking, wall mounted sculpture, collage, and video. Only original works may be submitted. The entry fee is $35.00 for up to three images, with an additional $10.00 for each additional image (maximum 12 images total). Video submissions are accepted (0-3 videos). The final submission deadline is March 12, 2019 at 11:59 PM MT. Notification of acceptance will be sent March 21, 2019. The opening reception is Friday, May 3, 2019 from 6-9 PM.

Accepted artwork must be suitably framed to professional standards (using Plexiglas except for hand-delivered work under 24" x 30"). Maximum size is 60" x 60" x 12" D. All artwork must be wired or have cleat attachment and ready for hanging. A label must be affixed to the back indicating artist name, title, medium, dimensions, and price. All artwork must be priced for sale, and Site:Brooklyn retains a 50% commission on sales. Artists are responsible for delivery and return shipping and must provide their own insurance. Artwork cannot be withdrawn or shipped before the end of the exhibit. All entry fees are non-refundable.
