About This Call

The Flying Lark, Southern Oregon's premier gaming, dining and entertainment destination, requests artists or artist teams submit qualifications for the commission of projects for inclusion in a world-class art walk in Grants Pass, Oregon that celebrates the magic, power and beauty of horses. The Art Walk will comprise over 20 pieces of bespoke art including sculptures of varying sizes. Newly commissioned works are the priority, but existing pieces that meet the theme and criteria will be considered.

The experience will consist of over 20 bespoke pieces of varying sizes and styles created by sculptors, welders, glassblowers, muralists and specialists in other mediums. Examples of proposed work include outdoor pieces resilient in all temperatures: free standing sculptures (4' - 25' in height, 5' - 10' in width and depth), outdoor furniture concepts for public gathering, large format murals on walls and asphalt, concrete inlay works, and kinetic or interactive pieces. Sculptures of the full form of a horse are encouraged as are non-literal or partial horse forms, including representations of horse-related facts or insights in language, culture, history, entertainment, equine equipment or other substantive horse-related impact on humankind. Artists working in any medium are eligible.

Project budgets fall into four ranges: A ($5,000-$10,000), B ($10,001-$20,000), C ($20,001-$40,000), D ($40,001-$100,000). The artist's budget includes all fees and costs associated with design, fabrication, travel, transportation, site preparation, insurance, permits, installation, shipping, protective coating, equipment, taxes, progress meetings and other project costs. Artists must be over 18 and permitted to work in the United States. Submissions require a CV/resume, letter of interest (limited to 2 pages), 4-15 images of previously completed works (up to 5 videos also accepted), image identification list, and estimated project budget. The two-phase selection process evaluates artistic excellence, professional experience, and experience with projects of similar scale. Phase 2 artists receive a $500 stipend. Selected artists will participate in a Meet the Artist event and video footage for a "making of" video. Payment schedule: $500 stipend upon Phase 2 proposal submission, 20% upon contract signing, 30% after work initiation, 50% upon completion and installation. Entry deadline: March 31, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
