About This Call

Monmouth University's Center for the Arts invites artists to submit work for a juried exhibition exploring denim as a fine art medium. The exhibition will take place June 17 – August 14, 2021 in the Pollak Gallery. Artists are encouraged to use recycled or repurposed denim in new and creative ways, including paintings, sculptures, collages, small constructions, and wall hangings. Works submitted must use denim as the principal medium of the piece, though other materials may be incorporated. The fabric must be reconstructed from its original form in some way.

Each artist may submit up to 3 artworks for a $25 entry fee. Submissions must include an artist statement, images of each piece, artist bio, and entry fee through CAFE. Only professionally framed or finished artwork will be accepted. Wall-hung items must be appropriately framed with finished edges and proper wiring for hanging; no saw-tooth hangers or metal eyelets are accepted. Three-dimensional works must be stable and stand on their own or include adequate display stands, with a maximum size of 5' h x 3' w and weight not exceeding 75 pounds. Canvas wrapped paintings are acceptable; raw canvas edges are not.

Participants will be notified by May 17, 2021. A virtual opening reception is scheduled for June 24, 2021 at 7 p.m. Shipping or drop-off of accepted work to Monmouth University is the responsibility of the artist. If a physical show is not possible due to COVID restrictions, the exhibition will pivot to a virtual format. For questions, contact Kelly Barratt at [email protected] or 732.263.5114.
