About This Call
The Factory on Willow's Artist in Residence (AIR) program is designed to support emerging artists with a place to live for up to 3 months. During this time, selected applicants can focus full-time on developing their creative practice as they take steps toward becoming career professionals.
The program runs three times a year: Session 1 (March, April & May), Session 2 (June, July & August), and Session 3 (September, October & November). Eligible applicants must be photographers, painters, 3D artists, designers, animators, or filmmakers. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, hold Permanent Resident status, or have another work visa not expiring within 6 months, and be at least 21 years old. Children cannot be accommodated in the residencies.
Benefits include individualized attention with two artists per session, a travel stipend, weekly stipend for food and art supplies, fully covered living/studio space rent and utilities, access to all Factory amenities (fitness center, green space, parking), weekly meetups with other residents and an on-site facilitator, regular open-studio events and artist talks, and teaching opportunities. Each residency concludes with an artist opening celebration featuring a solo or duo exhibition in the on-site event space. Artists may also organize additional public events such as artist talks, community dinners, workshops, and studio visits. Applications are reviewed by an art committee and there is no application fee.
