About This Call
The Engaged Object is a juried exhibition exploring how fine craft artists use jewelry, ceramics, glass, wood, textiles, and other fine craft processes to make social and political statements. Throughout history, craft has played a significant role in radically re-imagining existing societies and has been deeply involved in transforming ideas about economic, political, and cultural issues. This exhibition will expand the public's view of the role of fine craft as it both reflects and influences our ideas, viewpoints, and attitudes.
Foothills Art Center has invited some of the most important craft artists working today who address political and social issues through their work, including Regina Benson, Al Farrow, Ron Geibel, Charlotte Kruk, Robert Mickelsen, Ann Morton, Ira Sherman, and Richard Notkin. The remaining works will be selected by FAC curator Marianne Lorenz and FAC Exhibition Manager Becky Guy. The exhibition runs January 23 - March 26, 2016.
National and international artists are encouraged to enter up to three works of art with up to five images per entry. Entry fee is $20 for the first entry. Artists may enter work in craft media including glass, ceramics, woodworking, jewelry, metalwork, mixed media, and textiles. All entries must be one-of-a-kind and not previously displayed at FAC. Wall pieces may not exceed 50 lbs and must be equipped with adequate hanging devices. Accepted artists will deliver work January 4-13 (shipped) or January 11-15 (hand-delivered). FAC retains a 40% commission on art sales. Juror selections will be announced December 2, 2015, with accepted artists notified via email.
