About This Call
Archway Partners in collaboration with Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs seeks one or more artists or artist teams to develop artwork for The Enclave by Archway Partners, a 104-unit affordable housing development at 4475 S. Rio Grande Ave., Orlando, FL 32839. The Enclave at Canopy Park is a Green Building Certified Project consisting of three 3-story garden style buildings on 3.28 acres. The proposed artwork should be fresh and reflective of the local community, which is ethnically diverse and includes first responders, teachers, single mothers, service industry workers, and other working-class professionals.
Possibilities for public art include kinetic sculpture, metal work, sculpture, mosaics, and murals. The site is located in a neighborhood on the southern edge of Orlando with roadways on the north and west sides and an entrance on the southwest corner. A shopping plaza to the east contains grocery stores, a library, restaurants, gym, and local businesses.
A budget of $72,750 has been approved for artwork. The selected artist(s) or team(s) will receive a comprehensive contract and will be responsible for artwork design, fabrication, materials, installation, insurance, travel, public presentations, meetings with Orange County staff, identification plaque, and all related incidental expenses. Several artists will be selected to provide proposals and will be paid a $750 stipend for their proposal. Installation is scheduled for August 2025.
This opportunity is open to professional artists working in any appropriate media. Student artists may apply if they secure an experienced public artist to serve as a mentor. Applicants must submit a professional resume, letter of interest outlining their approach, and a minimum of one image (maximum six) of finished works or conceptual drawings. If submitted images are not of completed public artwork, provide additional information demonstrating ability to realize a public art project. Selected artists must complete a W-9 Vendor Registration Form and will receive payments by check. Applications are due June 3, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. For further information, contact Dawn R. Knight, Public Art Coordinator, at [email protected] or 407-836-5540.
