About This Call
The Providence Art Club invites BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artists from throughout the United States to submit work for The Edward Mitchell Bannister National Exhibition. This annual open exhibition celebrates founding member Edward Mitchell Bannister (1828-1901), one of the most successful African American artists of his generation and a foundational force in the Art Club's establishment in 1880. The 2023 exhibition will feature contemporary art by BIPOC makers working in any theme, style, or media, and will be juried by independent curator and gallerist Krista Scenna.
Eligibility is open to BIPOC artists living and working throughout the United States, its territories, protectorates, and provinces. Entry fee is $35 for up to two artworks ($25 for Art Club members). Artists must submit a minimum of one JPEG image and may submit up to two images. Entries must be original artworks completed within the last four years. All works in the exhibition must be for sale. Three-dimensional works may not exceed 100 lbs. The exhibition runs June 18 – July 14, 2023, open Sundays – Fridays, 12-4pm daily, and will be accompanied by an online gallery.
Fourteen prizes totaling $6,000 in awards will be announced during the exhibition, including a Best in Show prize of $1,000. Accepted artists will be notified via email on May 26. Work delivery is required between Monday, June 5 – Wednesday, June 14 at the Providence Art Club, 11 Thomas Street, Providence, RI 02903. Work removal must occur between Monday, July 31 – Thursday, August 3 from 12-3pm daily. The Providence Art Club carries blanket insurance covering fire, theft, and breakage at 2/3 of the sale price, up to $250. Sales commission is 25% for PAC members and 40% for non-members. For questions, contact Gallery Manager Michael Rose at [email protected] or 401-331-1114 x 5.
