About This Call
The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels to submit original artwork exploring the interplay of light and shadow. This national call welcomes work in painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography. There are no restrictions on subject matter, style, or technique.
The exhibition theme explores how opposition of light and shadow creates three-dimensional space, emphasizes tonal range, and accentuates form. Artists are invited to consider how light and shadow can establish mood, conceal or emphasize structure, manipulate color and tonal values, develop narrative, or unify and structure an image. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images at $5.00 each up to 9 maximum. All images must be submitted as JPEG files under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artwork must include title, medium, size, price, and year of completion.
Accepted artwork must arrive by October 20, 2023, for the exhibition running October 25 through November 22, 2023. Artwork must be professionally finished and ready for installation with stretched wire attached to the back. Maximum size is 48 inches (framed) on the longest side and 45 lbs; sculpture should not exceed 24 inches on any dimension. Photographs should be framed in black or white frames with white or off-white mats. All artwork must remain in the gallery for the full exhibition duration. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance. An "Art of Distinction" Award will be granted to one artist, and one artist will be selected annually for a New York City exhibition opportunity. Notification of acceptance will be sent by September 14, 2023.
