The Drama of Light and Shadow

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels to submit original artwork exploring the interplay of light and shadow. This national exhibition welcomes work in painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography. There are no restrictions on subject matter, style, or technique.

The exhibition theme explores how opposition of light and shadow creates three-dimensional space, emphasizes tonal range, and accentuates form. Artists are invited to consider how light and shadow can establish mood, conceal or emphasize structures, manipulate color and tonal values, develop narrative, or unify and structure an image. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images at $5.00 each up to 9 maximum. All images must be submitted as JPEG files under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artists should include title, medium, size, price, and year of completion with submissions.

Accepted artwork must arrive by December 4, 2024, for the exhibition running December 7, 2024 through January 9, 2025. Artwork must be professionally finished and ready for installation with stretched wire attached to the back. Paintings should not exceed 48 inches (framed) on the longest side or weigh more than 45 lbs; sculpture should not exceed 24 inches on any dimension. The gallery is located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, one hour from New York City. Awards include an "Art of Distinction" Award, an Annual Grand Prize offering a New York City exhibition opportunity, and an optional Director's Choice Award. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance. A prepaid return shipping label must be enclosed with artwork; artwork without a return label will be considered abandoned. For sales, artists receive 70% of the final sale price.
