About This Call
THE CROW SHOW: Homage to the Raven is an exhibition of visual art running from February 6–28, 2015, produced by The Studio Door. Found in nearly every corner of the world, crows (Corvus) are considered one of the world's most intelligent animals. They can create and use tools, communicate with each other, and are highly social creatures. In mythology, crows have fascinated mankind. For some cultures, they heralded important news and symbolized the unity of marriage; while for others, crows took on an ominous and dark role in war and death. The Studio Door is seeking artwork that represents the many faces of the crow in reality and fantasy.
Accepted categories include painting, drawing, photo, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, ceramics, stained glass, and sculpture. The exhibition does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation, or works requiring an external electrical source. Submissions must be the artist's original work. Two-dimensional work must not exceed 9 feet in height and 4 feet in width (including frame). Three-dimensional work must fit a pedestal sized 16 inches x 16 inches or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space. Artworks must arrive ready to hang and be presented professionally. Framed artwork must use black wood or natural wood frame with no color mats. Plexi only, no glass.
Entry fee is $35 for the initial entry plus $5 for each additional media submission (1–3 images accepted). The juror, Jenna S. Jacobs (Curatorial Manager, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego), will select works for both the physical gallery exhibition in San Diego and an online gallery. A Juror's Award ribbon and certificate will be presented to three works expressing the most imaginative interpretation of the theme. One work will be designated "Best in Show" and used as the cover of the exhibition catalog. All selected artwork will be included in the national exhibition virtual catalog. Artists will be notified by January 2, 2015. Hand-delivery of artwork is available Sunday, February 1 (Noon–4 PM) or Tuesday, February 3 (10 AM–6 PM). Shipped artwork must be received by January 30, 2015, and will be returned by March 3, 2015. For sales, 60% goes to the artist and 40% to The Studio Door. Contact [email protected] with questions.
