About This Call
PrintAustin announces the open call for its 6th annual juried international exhibition, The Contemporary Print, presented in collaboration with Big Medium and juried by Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck. The exhibition will be held at Big Medium Gallery, 916 Springdale Road, Austin, Texas from January 18 – February 16, 2019.
The Contemporary Print is a survey of traditional printmaking techniques and innovative approaches in contemporary printmaking. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique, including lithography, relief, intaglio, silkscreen, photo polymer plate (SolarPlates), and monotype. Solely digital and photographic prints are not eligible. Work cannot exceed 72 inches (183 cm) in any direction. Works that have exhibited in past The Contemporary Print exhibitions are not eligible.
Eligibility is open to local, national, and international artists 18 years or older. Entry fee is $35 for up to 3 entries; $10 for each additional entry. Submit 3-10 images (JPEG only, minimum 1920 pixels on longest side, 72 ppi, 5 MB maximum) and up to 3 videos through CallForEntry.org by November 1, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selected artists will receive email notification by December 1. Shipped artwork must be delivered between January 8-11, 2019. All work must be professionally matted/framed and installation ready (white or off-white mats, white or natural wood frames, plexiglass only). International artists may ship unframed prints to be hung with a magnet system.
Awards include: The PrintAustin Award ($500), The Gamblin Award ($200 + $200 gift certificate), The Awagami Paper Award ($100 + $250 value in Japanese washi paper), and The Blick Art Materials Award ($150 gift certificate). Selected artists receive 70% commission on sales; Big Medium and PrintAustin split 30%. PrintAustin will insure all works while in the gallery. For questions regarding eligible media or special installation requirements, contact [email protected].
