About This Call
PrintAustin announces the open call for its 12th annual juried international exhibition, The Contemporary Print, presented in collaboration with The Art Galleries at Austin Community College. The exhibition will be juried by Laurel Gerber, Park Family Assistant Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The Contemporary Print is a survey of traditional printmaking techniques and innovative approaches in contemporary printmaking. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique, including lithography, relief, intaglio, silkscreen, photopolymer plate (SolarPlates), and monotype. Solely digital and photographic prints are not eligible.
Eligibility is open to local, national, and international artists 18 years or older. Any 2-D or 3-D work including ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and artist books that uses printmaking as the sole or primary technique are eligible. Unless an installation, work cannot exceed 72 inches in any direction. Works that have exhibited in past The Contemporary Print exhibitions are not eligible, and artists accepted into the 2024 exhibition are ineligible until 2026.
Entry fees are $35 for non-members ($10 for each additional submission over 3) or $10 for PrintAustin members (includes 3 submissions, $10 per additional). Limited comped entries are available for artists with financial hardship. Submissions require 3-6 images (JPEG format at maximum quality) and may include 0-3 video files (MP4). File names should follow: FirstName_LastName_Image#.jpg.
Prizes include: Best in Show ($500 cash and podcast interview by Hello, Print Friend), runners-up prizes including podcast features, vendor booth and conference ticket to SGCI's conference in Puerto Rico (April 2025), $150 gift certificate to Takach Press, $150 in printmaking supplies by LardeCorp, and $75 gift certificate to The Morgan Conservatory.
Notifications will be sent by November 15, 2024. The exhibition runs January 21 - March 20, 2025 at The Art Galleries (TAG) at Austin Community College, 6101 Highland Campus Dr., Austin, TX. Selected artists receive a shipping stipend (minimum $50) and PrintAustin will insure all works while in the gallery. Artists are responsible for return shipping and must include a prepaid return label. Once accepted, artists must submit hi-res images and an artist statement for the catalog. All work must be professionally presented; prints should be matted/floated and framed installation-ready with plexiglass and white or off-white mats. International artists may ship unframed prints to be hung with a magnet system provided by PrintAustin.
