About This Call
PrintAustin announces the open call for its 6th annual juried international exhibition, The Contemporary Print, presented in collaboration with Big Medium and juried by Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck. The exhibition will be held at Big Medium Gallery during PrintAustin 2019.
The Contemporary Print is a survey of traditional printmaking techniques and innovative approaches in contemporary printmaking. While non-traditional or digital output is accepted as a print element, submissions must utilize traditional print media as their primary technique, including lithography, relief, intaglio, silkscreen, photo polymer plate (SolarPlates), and monotype. Solely digital and photographic prints are not eligible. Work cannot exceed 72 inches in any direction. Works that have exhibited in past The Contemporary Print exhibitions are not eligible.
Entry fee is $35 for up to 3 entries; $10 for each additional entry. Submissions must include 3-10 images and up to 3 videos. Exhibition dates are January 18 – February 16, 2019. Meet the Juror & Members Preview is Friday, January 18, 6-7 PM, with Opening Reception 7-10 PM. Shipped artwork must be delivered between January 8-11, 2019. Email notifications will be sent to all artists by December 1, 2018. Selected artists will receive a shipping stipend courtesy of Big Medium. Artists are responsible for return shipping and must include a prepaid return label. PrintAustin will insure all works while in the gallery. All work must be professionally matted/framed and installation ready, with white or off-white mats and white or natural wood frames only. International artists have the option to ship prints unframed. Awards include The PrintAustin Award ($500), The Gamblin Award ($200 + $200 gift certificate), The Awagami Paper Award ($100 + $250 value in paper), and The Blick Art Materials Award ($150 gift certificate). Open to artists 18 years or older. Artist receives 70% commission on sales; Big Medium and PrintAustin split 30% commission.
